A Moment of Inspiration
This is the story behind COCAKERY’s handmade buttercream flower cakes.
Every beautiful creation begins with a simple moment of inspiration. Mine started with watching a YouTube video featuring a talented cake artist from Japan. She was carefully piping delicate flowers from bean paste.
It was more than a cake decoration; it was a form of edible art. At that moment, seeing how she transformed bean paste into delicate flowers fascinated me.
It showed me that cakes could be more than just desserts — they could become a form of art and a way to express creativity.
It was a banana cupcake with a basic swirl and drizzled with coloured chocolate rice.
The Courage to Begin
Like many dreams, however, taking the first step was the hardest part. I wondered whether I could ever create flowers as beautiful as those I had admired on the screen
However, turning that dream into reality required courage. My only sister was the person who encouraged me to take the first step.
She believed in my potential and supported me in joining an intensive cake decoration class.
This time I made red velvet.
Learning the Art of Cake Decoration
The class was conducted over five weekends, and it was a meaningful learning experience.
Each session, I was introduced to many different types of cake decorating techniques, from basic piping skills to intricate floral arrangements and elegant basket
Among everything I learned, buttercream flowers and basket cake designs captured my heart the most.
Before attending the class, my cake-decorating style was much simpler. I mainly created rosettes with colourful buttercream colours.
It was a good starting point, but I knew there was still so much more to learn.
One Petal at A Time
With guidance from my teacher and continuous practice, my skills gradually developed.
I learned how different piping tips create different petals, how colours can be combined beautifully, and how patience plays an important role in creating handmade decorations.
Journey of Growth
Looking back at my earlier creations compared to my cakes today, I can see how much I have grown.
Every flower, every arrangement, and every detail represents countless hours of practice and the willingness to keep improving.
Creating Sweet Memories
