Little Flowers You Can Eat
There is something special about cupcakes. Perhaps it is because they are small enough to hold in one hand, yet they can carry so much character.
A little swirl of buttercream, a few delicate petals and a soft colour. Suddenly, an ordinary cupcake becomes something worth looking at before taking that first bite.
This is what I discovered when I started making cupcakes at COCAKERY.
Small Cakes, Little Creations
At COCAKERY Cottage in Bandar Baru Selayang, I make cupcakes in small batches.
I like the idea of making things by hand, rather than producing many pieces that all look exactly the same.
Every cupcake starts with the cake itself. Then comes the buttercream, followed by the decoration. When I pipe the flowers, I never quite know how each one will turn out. Although I follow the same technique, every flower has its own little character.
And perhaps that is what makes handmade cupcakes charming.
They do not have to be perfect to be beautiful.
When Buttercream Becomes a Flower
Buttercream flowers have become one of the things people associate with COCAKERY.
I enjoy piping them because there is something almost therapeutic about creating the petals one by one. What begins a little mound of buttercream slowly transforms into a rose, sunflower even daisy.
Sometimes, when I looked at the finished cupcake, I have to remind myself that the flower is actually made to be eaten.
That is the fun of it.
For me, the flowers are not simply decoration. They are part of the story of COCAKERY and my own journey of learning to create cakes differently.
A Cupcake for Every Little Occasion
A box of cupcakes can be just right for a small birthday celebration, a family gathering or even a simple afternoon at home.
They also make thoughtful little gifts. Instead of bringing something ordinary, you can bring a box of handmade cupcakes decorated with colourful buttercream flowers.
And sometimes, there doesn’t have to be an occasion at all.
You can simply have a cupcake because you feel like having one.

Being a small bakery also means I get to know what our customers enjoy.
Over time, I have adjusted our recipes to suit the local palate. I prefer buttercream that is balanced in sweetness, so that you can enjoy the flavour of the cake and buttercream together without one overpowering the other.
Our cupcakes come in different flavours, colours and designs, depending on what we are making at that time.
