A shopping guide for home bakers

This guide is for anyone who is residing outside of Selayang and wish to do shopping here.

Baking Supplier in Selayang

1. House of Ingredients (HOI) 

Location

Located right across the street of Jalan Besar Selayang Baru from Selayang, opposite the Petronas pump station. 

If you come from Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur the shop is located on the left side of Jalan Besar, Selayang Baru.

Address: B9,Jalan Besar, Selayang Baru, 68100, Selangor.

What do they sell? 

On the ground level, it is divided into two sections, left and right. 

Left

• flour, cereals and grains
• sweeteners
• chocolate chips
• sprinkles
• food colouring
• icing and fondant 

Right

• cupcake liner 
• dairy products 
• decoration item. 

The first floor is where they supply a different kind of packaging material such as

• boxes for cakes
• muffin container
• baking tools such as muffin tray and aluminium tray
• cookies moulds

Not only baking ingredients, but the store also sells oven and cake mixer for the first-time home baker. 😊 

2. Two-PLY

Location

Located across the street of Jalan Selayang Baru, Kawasan Perindustrian Selayang Baru.

This shop is a one storey building, a big shop that sells baking ingredients and packaging items.

What do they sell

• Different kind of flour such as wheat flour, glutinous flour, tapioca flour and bun mix flour. They also provide instruction on the shelves on how to use the bun mix flour.  

• Sweeteners of a different kind of variety such as brown sugar, coarse sugar, castor sugar, icing sugar. 

• Kitchen tools such as industrial kitchen mixer, Bahulu tray, muffin tray, food cover. 

• Plastic packaging such as the container for drinks, disposable bento box, plastic sack.  

• Cleaner for kitchen based on Serai Wangi (for pest control) 

3. Bake With Yen @ Selayang

Location 

Located at Taman Selayang Jaya. It is about 30 metre walking distance from Maybank Selayang Jaya. 

The shop consists of two levels. The first level is designated for imported and selected  baking ingredients and the second level consists of containers and cooking utensils. 

If you are looking for different kinds of ingredients that are available such as ready made cake and bread mix, this is the best place to go.

4. Bake Well Supplies

It is located in Taman Sri Gombak under the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS).

Address: 47 & 49 Jalan SG 1/9, Taman Sri Gombak, 68100, Batu Caves, Selangor.

5. 99 Speed Mart

It is a retail shop that has many branches in Selayang, and one could find it almost at any residential area in Selayang. 

We include the shop because this is the place where get the supplies of wheat flour at an affordable price. 

6. Pasaraya Okay 

Pasaraya Okay is a wholesale shop that sells local grocery items to retailers. It is located next building to TWO-PLY. 

Even though it is not a baking supply shop, we managed to find baking powder, essence vanilla and a few food colouring over here. They also sell plastic sacs like the one we find at TWO-PLY. Like any other wholesale, they also sell eggs.

Wholesale Eggs in Selayang 

As a wholesale centre, they sell 30 eggs per tray. They are not selling 1 dozen like we used to buy in the grocery store.

On the other side, they also sell different grades for eggs ranging from double-A, A, B, C, D. Sometimes also grade E.

The grade of the egg is according to the weight of the egg.

In the table below, I summarize the type of the egg according to weight and its descriptions. This is to give the idea of the content of different sizes of the egg.

1. Perniagaan Wah Sing

The wholesale has two locations, one is next to NSK Selayang and the other one is located between the border of Selayang and Kuala Lumpur. The latter one is next to Selvam Banana Leaf.

They also provide service for every reusable egg tray that the customer returned they will deduct 5 cents from the price of eggs.   

2. AA Cash & Carry 

This is an alternative shop for us to find the egg grade A. 

Address: Lot 2, Jalan 9 Selayang Baru,68100, Batu Caves, Selangor.
